Illegal Haitian working as nursing assistant raped patient under his care

On Tuesday, Joel Monfort, 53, was deported to Haiti by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, after spending more than ten years in the U.S., illegally.

The Haitian national was actually placed into the deportation process in 2000, but failed to show up for a removal hearing. Consequently, he was ordered deported by an immigration judge on July 5, 2000.

Of course, Monfort, who has been twice-convicted of sexual assaults in Maryland should have been deported after completing his first sentence in 2002. However, since the entire state of Maryland has in place, sanctuary policies which shield illegal aliens from deportation, he was allowed to stay and actually committed another crime.

Monfort was previously found guilty of two crimes, officials say. On Sept. 28, 2001, Monfort was convicted of second-degree assault and sex offense in Salisbury and was sentenced to 12 months in prison. On Feb. 13, 2004, he was again convicted of second-degree assault and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Monfort was working as a nursing assistant at the Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, where he sexually assaulted a motorcycle accident victim, according to court documents.
