Arrests made in four 'knockout game' attacks

Original Story

Five arrests were made in Ahoskie, North Carolina after four innocent people were punched during the "knockout game," as reported by the local news yesterday.

WNCT 9 reported that William [McCoy] White, 22, Dominique Parker, 24, and Antwon Valentine, 26, were among the five arrests after a knockout spree two days before Thanksgiving. The incidents "happened within hours of each other."

It seems that one of the perpetrators, William McCoy White Jr., is also a registered sex offender.

Cal Bryant of the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald also listed Kentrell Devonte Freeman, 19, and Eric Stephenson, 22. Bryant wrote that one of the defendants was "previously charged by the Ahoskie Police Department for a similar crime.

He also wrote that during his arrest, Dominique Parker "assaulted a police officer, and repeated that crime upon his arrival at the Hertford County Jail in Winton. That resulted in two additional charges of misdemeanor assault and his total bond was set at $80,500 secured..."

Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan said,
"We are very concerned, because it is innocent citizens in the county that are getting hurt for no reason whatsoever."
One of the victims was "was hit in the throat and head by two men."

Wavy reported that one of the victims described the attack,
"The thing about [the suspects], they catch you when you're not looking...They don't give you any warning whatsoever," added the victim. "I was leaning against the brick wall and they just came around to the other side and boom. [You] turn around and they hit you."
The race of the perpetrators or the victims was not divulged. Additionally, no further information was given about the victims. Oftentimes, the cowards that indulge in this activity select vulnerable people, such as the elderly. The defendants in this case have been charged with simple assault.

Sheriff Vaughn said,
“This is one of those cases where you wish more serious charges could be filed, but I must follow the letter of the law and charge them by the book.”
