Black suspect formally charged with murder of Beau Zabel

Original Story

PHILADELPHIA The suspected killer stewed in Interview Room D as detectives prepared charges against him in a crime that he could not escape - the five-year-old killing of Beau Zabel.

Marcellus Anthony "Ant North" Jones had been "mouthy," as one detective put it, during Wednesday morning's drive from Graterford Prison to Police Headquarters.

Investigators had retrieved Jones so they could book him in the 2008 killing of Zabel, a teaching student from Minnesota gunned down for his iPod near the Italian Market as he walked home from his night shift at a Starbucks.

The killing of a young man who had come to Philadelphia just six weeks earlier to teach math in the inner city pulled at the conscience of the community five years ago.

Now, in the cramped confines of the Homicide Unit, there would be another step toward justice.

To prepare Jones to be charged with murder, prison guards removed the face mask that the
35-year-old is made to wear to keep him from spitting on people. At the Homicide Unit, Jones - who is serving a life term after a 2012 conviction for killing a 19-year-old accomplice in the Zabel slaying - shouted when a detective took him to the bathroom.

He was innocent, he said. He had been wrongly convicted the last time around. Where were his rights?

"I'm another Trayvon Martin," he said.

Sitting in a cramped office, Lt. Mark Deegan of the Special Investigation Unit shook his head.

"We go through this a lot," said Deegan, who has been working homicides for 15 years. "He is trying to make himself the victim."

But Deegan and the other investigators who have worked the Zabel case over the years have long known Jones to be something else entirely: a remorseless killer.

"This is one of the ones where you get a lot of satisfaction," Deegan said. "This guy Marcellus Jones is a thug."

Deegan has been the supervisor assigned to the case from the beginning. He had been at the crime scene on Ellsworth Street that night in June 2008 where police found the 23-year-old Zabel dead eight houses from his apartment, his eyes open and the pants pocket where he kept his iPod turned out.

The senselessness of the killing was never lost on the veteran investigator.

"This was a kid - a young guy who wanted to give of himself," Deegan said Wednesday. "He wanted to come to Philadelphia to help, and you don't hear that story very often. That's not something that happens every day."

Deegan remembered sitting in his office a year and a half ago, expressing hope that the case could be solved. Jones had just been convicted for killing Tyrek Taylor, his suspected getaway driver, whom prosecutors said he killed to keep him quiet about the Zabel murder.

Police didn't have enough to charge Jones then, Deegan said. With so much time from the slaying, there was no chance of finding the gun or Zabel's iPod. Investigators needed one more witness whom Jones might have discussed the killing with - that would be the only thing that could bring the case in, he said.

On Wednesday, Deegan credited an Inquirer series published on the five-year anniversary of Zabel's death as providing the spark that helped investigators get the evidence they needed.

That break came last month when an acquittance of Jones' stepped forward and told detectives he had heard Jones speak about killing Taylor and "the teacher in South Philly" shortly after the crimes during a gathering at a house in Germantown. He said Jones had killed Zabel because all he had on him was an iPod rather than an iPhone.

The man said other witnesses had heard Jones, too.

One of those witnesses then told investigators that they had realized Jones was talking about Zabel after reading the "article in the newspaper" this year, Deegan said.

"The story, it was kind of like proof for them," Deegan said of the Inquirer series. "When they [the witnesses] read the story, it was like, 'A-ha. We're right. We thought it was that teacher.'
"It confirmed for them what they already knew," Deegan said.

An arrest warrant for Jones was issued last month based on the new evidence and testimony of Devonne Brinson, who testified at the 2012 trial that Jones had told him about killing Zabel.

All that was left was to work out the logistics of getting Jones from the state prison to Philadelphia. That happened Wednesday.

Besides shouting, Jones refused to speak to investigators, Deegan said.

Having been convicted of murder already, he could face the death penalty. That lies ahead at trial.

After detectives were done with Jones, there was one more thing to do.

Detective George Fetters - who had worked the case with Deegan from the start - made a call to Zabel's family in Minnesota.

"I'm happy to say we've arrested the man who killed your son," he said. It was a call he had long wanted to make.

Black male masturbated on transit bus, then followed victim

Original Story

WEST HARTFORD — A Hartford man has been charged with public indecency and breach of peace after police say he was masturbating on a CT Transit bus in West Hartford and exposed himself to a woman.

When the woman moved to the front of the bus to get away from Robert Jamell Roundtree, he followed her, police said. And when she got off the bus at Westfarms mall, he followed her into the mall, exposing himself as he followed, police said.

Inside the mall, she went into a restaurant and called police, police said. Roundtree went into a bathroom.

"We found him in the front of the mall, and he was still exposing himself at that time," said Lt. Ted Stoneburner. Roundtree is on federal probation for drug offenses.

Roundtree was initially held on $10,000 bail for the incident, which was reported at 1 p.m. Dec. 2, but was later released after his bail was reduced and he posted $5,000 bail with a bondsman.

His case is being handled in community court in Hartford, where he is scheduled to appear Dec. 23.

Obama supporter victim of knockout game

Original Story

This was not supposed to happen. Not to him.

Before his encounter with the Knockout Game and racial violence, Paul Lane was “a lefty. As left as you can get,” he said. He supported Obama. Intends to vote for Hillary. Or least he did.

That was November 7, 2013. The day everything changed for Paul. The day Kenneth Johnson walked into the Contra Costa library and played the Knockout Game.

“It was 2:49 in the afternoon,” said Lane, a librarian. “And this black guy, I won’t say he was a kid, he was 21 years old,  comes into the room in the library. I was helping a 67-year old guy with history and old movies, because I know that stuff.  He was smiling as if he knew the guy I was helping. Then he — Johnson — walks up to the the patron and hits him on the side of the head as hard as he can.”

Three weeks later, in court, when Lane tells his story, Johnson’s lawyer objects: ‘The witness doesn’t know how hard my client can hit,” said the lawyer.

Lane was about to find out: He yelled at Johnson to stop hitting the patron. He did. Then he jumped over Lane’s desk and starting hitting and kicking him. It got real bloody real fast.

“So the guy jumps over the library desk and started beating me. And hits me about 20 or 25 times. I can’t remember exactly cause I’m kinda blocked out a bit. Yeah he really whaled into me.  He decked the patron with one one punch. He hit me in ear. In the side of the head. The top of the head. I was bleeding from the nose, eyes, mouth, ears.”

Lane crawled into the other room and asked for help. Then it was over. Later, the newspapers would say the injuries were non-life threatening. Which of course depends on how you define life: The library walls were spattered with blood. Lane cannot pick up a book, let alone think about going back to work. He has headaches and “major concussion issues.”

And other issues, maybe even bigger:

Black male who sexually abused autistic teen will serve only 13.5 years

Original Story

CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -The man who sexually assaulted an autistic teenager was sentenced to prison on Wednesday.

Israel Wingo, 67, will serve 13.5 years in prison for sexually assaulting the autistic 17-year-old girl on the west side of Cleveland

During his sentencing, Wingo insisted he is not a sexual predator. He will be required to register as a Tier II Sexual Offender

Wingo then offered an apology to his victim, but she refused to look at him

"She's not the same, I mean she doesn't communicate any more," the victim's mother said. "She's crawled back into that shell that I worked so hard to get her out of."

19 Action News has learned that Wingo is the father of the victim's friend

"Shame on you, she trusted you," scolded Prosecutor Frankie Goldberg.

The crime came to light when Cleveland Rec worker William Morrison saw Wingo kissing the victim in front of Roberto Clemente Park. Morrison used his cell phone to take a picture of Wingo's truck and license. Police investigated and found nude pictures of the girl and kiddie porn

Wingo had previously entered a plea of guilty to six counts of pandering sexually-oriented matter involving a minor, one count of endangering children, one count of gross sexual imposition, one count of possessing criminal tools and one count of illegal use of a minor in nudity oriented material or performance.

Elderly White woman attacked by black home invaders apologizes for them having ruined their lives

The 15-year-old who police said is one of the two people responsible for the home invasion that injured an elderly woman in Watertown late last month will be in court today, where he will be tried as an adult.

Divontaye Canady has been charged with assault, larceny and kidnapping with a firearm.

When Canady appeared in court last month, his mother was by his side as his public defender entered a not guilty plea. The family declined to comment outside court.

“He’s gonna get sent away to jail, you know, for what? For assaulting an old lady," said the victim, 87-year-old Alma York, after seeing the court appearance on an afternoon newscast.

York was assaulted and robbed in late October inside her Watertown home.

She told police she answered the door on the right side of her ranch-style home. The suspect asked to rake her leaves, but she declined, saying she didn’t need it. Then he asked to use her cell phone, and that’s when York says she was attacked.

"He pounced on me and pushed me down," she said, illustrating with her hands.

She said now she's going about business as usual, although today that included a trip to the doctor. York recalled the moment during the robbery when she says an earring was ripped out of her ear.

“The plastic surgeon is going to take this lump off my ear," York said excitedly.

Although the situation left her a little on edge, she said after living in England through the Second World War, she's been through worse.

“I’m more careful when I answer the door now than I used to be," York said with a laugh.

She said she hopes the young man accused sees the error of his ways.

“I just feel sorry that he had to go and ruin his life at such a young age. And I just hope that it taught him a lesson, and he’ll think twice before he does anything like that again.”

A 17-year-old was also arrested in the case. That suspect's name has not been released.

Richmond sees at least four racial hate crime mob attacks

Original Story

A group of black male teens have attacked and brutally beaten at least four pedestrians and bicyclists. The media censored the race of the victims, but uses the term “Knockout Game.” This is a euphemism for black racial hate crime committed against non-black victims.

Racial violence by young blacks has been going on steadily in Richmond for years. They show news footage of past black on white hate crime violence, but refuse to make any mention of the racial nature of the attacks.

Arrests made in four 'knockout game' attacks

Original Story

Five arrests were made in Ahoskie, North Carolina after four innocent people were punched during the "knockout game," as reported by the local news yesterday.

WNCT 9 reported that William [McCoy] White, 22, Dominique Parker, 24, and Antwon Valentine, 26, were among the five arrests after a knockout spree two days before Thanksgiving. The incidents "happened within hours of each other."

It seems that one of the perpetrators, William McCoy White Jr., is also a registered sex offender.

Cal Bryant of the Roanoke-Chowan News Herald also listed Kentrell Devonte Freeman, 19, and Eric Stephenson, 22. Bryant wrote that one of the defendants was "previously charged by the Ahoskie Police Department for a similar crime.

He also wrote that during his arrest, Dominique Parker "assaulted a police officer, and repeated that crime upon his arrival at the Hertford County Jail in Winton. That resulted in two additional charges of misdemeanor assault and his total bond was set at $80,500 secured..."

Hertford County Sheriff Juan Vaughan said,
"We are very concerned, because it is innocent citizens in the county that are getting hurt for no reason whatsoever."
One of the victims was "was hit in the throat and head by two men."

Wavy reported that one of the victims described the attack,
"The thing about [the suspects], they catch you when you're not looking...They don't give you any warning whatsoever," added the victim. "I was leaning against the brick wall and they just came around to the other side and boom. [You] turn around and they hit you."
The race of the perpetrators or the victims was not divulged. Additionally, no further information was given about the victims. Oftentimes, the cowards that indulge in this activity select vulnerable people, such as the elderly. The defendants in this case have been charged with simple assault.

Sheriff Vaughn said,
“This is one of those cases where you wish more serious charges could be filed, but I must follow the letter of the law and charge them by the book.”

Black D.C. police officer under investigation for sex trafficking after runaway teen found at home

Original Story

The pimping of street prostitutes is a black-dominated affair, most of the girls are white runaways from rural & suburban areas. Therefore, it's likely that, the girls in this story are White.

D.C. police are investigating whether one of their own officers was running a prostitution ring after investigators found a runaway girl and other young women at his home in Southeast Washington.

According to documents filed in federal court, a 16-year-old girl who had gone missing told police that the officer bought sexy clothes for her and set up a “date” for her with an older . . . male for $80. The girl, who had been missing for a week, told police that six other women had also worked out of the home in the 3066 Stanton Road SE.

The incident comes just four days after the arrest of another D.C. police officer who was accused of taking nude pictures of a runaway teenager after she returned home. Police are investigating whether the two cases are related.

D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier released a statement Thursday saying she is “very concerned” about the recent allegations of “egregious conduct” by two officers involving missing girls.
Lanier said she recognized that the actions of the officers reflect on the entire department.

“The misguided actions of a few in no way reflect on the professionalism, dedication, and integrity of the department,” Lanier said. “As we have seen several times this year with three officers shot in the line of duty, MPD officers put their lives on the line every single day to protect residents and visitors in the District of Columbia. That will not change.”

On Wednesday, internal affairs officers searched the Stanton Road apartment as part of an investigation into a missing juvenile. The officer, who is not named in the search warrant, answered the door, and the investigators found a missing 16-year-old girl and 18-year-old female, as well as marijuana, according to the search warrant.

Investigators also found a white container and a black bag full of condoms, police said.
The girl told police that the officer took fully nude pictures of her in sparkly high heels, and told her that for prostitution purposes her name would be “Juicy,” court document said. At least six other young women worked out of the home, the girl said, and they explained to her how the business worked and how much money they made from having sex with men.

The officer set up a date with a man who liked her pictures, and told the girl that she should charge $80, of which $20 would go back to the officer, according to court documents.
The officer in question serves Washington’s 7th District.

Another 7D officer on Monday was charged with production of child pornography for allegedly taking nude pictures of a 15-year-old runaway girl after she had returned home. Police said Marc Washington told the girl the photos were part of the investigation.
